Fresh, crunchy Patane carrots!

With up to 80% of Patane Produce’s annual output, carrots are the prime product within their range of fresh produce.

Patane’s carrots are recognised as a top-grade product, distributed primarily into Coles and IGA stores across Western Australia, as well as interstate and overseas market floors.

Carrots are a versatile and healthy vegetable with a multitude of uses – serve them fresh in a salad, crunchy in a stir fry, place them in a hearty casserole, juice them for an energy hit or steam as an accompaniment for any meal

Purple Carrots

Purple carrots are sweeter than other carrots with a flavour that intensifies during roasting, baking or sautéing. Delicate and slender, purple carrots are about 5-8cm long and have a distinct deep purple skin.

A new Australian study has shown the ancient purple carrot variety is high in anti-inflammatory properties and antioxidants. They’re the original carrots, from ancient Persia. Like heirloom tomato varieties, purple carrots are one of a huge range of fruit and vegetables almost lost in the age of single supermarket varieties.

There are up to 28 times more anthocyanins (the antioxidant that creates the purple-red pigment in blueberries and raspberries) in purple carrots than there are in orange carrots.

Carrots – selection and storage tips

Select carrots that are straight and uniform in shape, without splits or blemishes in their flesh.

However, there is absolutely nothing wrong with those odd looking carrots that you may get in the bag from time to time and if peeling them becomes all too tricky, use them in your juicer to boost up your vegie intake.

Store carrots in a sealed plastic bag in the crisper section of the fridge. Stored properly, carrots will remain crunchy and fresh for up to a 1 week.
